Stevie was diagnosed with a depression that she didn’t have and given an antidepressant she didn’t need. After she endured years of withdrawal, Stevie embarked upon a journey raising awareness of antidepressant dependence, culminating in petitioning the Welsh Government, to show the extent to which people become dependent on and suffer withdrawal from antidepressants, benzodiazepines, Z drugs (hypnotics), and opioids.
Stevie is a co-author of “The Patient Voice” – an analysis of personal accounts of prescribed drug dependence and withdrawal submitted to petitions in Scotland and Wales. It was written on behalf of the Westminster All Party Parliamentary Group for Prescribed Drug Dependence for submission as evidence to the Public Health England review of prescribed drug dependence. Stevie’s story and work have featured in many national press articles and TV programs on the issue.
